Strengths: Durable, high quality sound reproduction
Weakness: No on-off switch on the mike
This is my second mike, upgrading from a basic entry-level Shure mike I started singing with a year ago. I've had only one opportunity to hear the new mike in action, and swap between the mikes. Strengths: More clarity, less feedback problems, Affordable and road worthy
Weakness: None I found for a mic at this price
I've been in this business a long time...In the studio, live, indoors, outdoors, you name it and I've played the venue... The old Shure 58 was a pretty good work horse for a long, long time. The beta 58A is a superior mic by far. Hard to find a place or situation it doesn't perform well.

Great mic! The Beta 58 was designed based on the popularity of Shure's SM 58 and tailored more specifically for vocals. The Beta 58 is still a extremely tough dynamic mic, but had a better high end response than it's predecessor thanks to the new neodymium capsule. The other difference is that it has a supercardioid pickup pattern allowing better gain before feedback for those groups that like...
